Parts and Pieces: A Brief Bestiary
contains a spectacular set of prints and drawings by Frank Boyden and Rick
Bartow, two celebrated draftsmen on the Oregon Coast. In February, 2001,
Frank Boyden and Rick Bartow engaged in five days of experimentation with
the process of using sugar-lift to produce intaglio prints. From these thirty-three
images, they selected eight prints by each artist to create a collection
of sixteen images that form the backbone of a bestiary. These prints were
then bound in a book with each print separated by a blank page. Boyden and
Bartow then drew and painted directly on these blank pages so that the bestiary
became a collection of sixteen original prints and sixteen original drawings
and paintings. All type is set in Perpetua; the text block for each volume
is Hahnemühle Copperplate; the endpapers are Hahnemühle Bugra;
the binding is a variation of Gary Frosts sewn boards; the covers
are Alaskan yellow cedar (Chamaecyparis nooktatensis). Each volume
is presented in a Solander box adorned with an original copperplate from
the series. Dimensions: 11.25 x 9.25 x 1.5 inches. 80 pages. |
